The New York City Civil Court is recruiting two analysts to support its Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Unit. Positions will be filled as either Court Analyst (JG-18) or Assistant Court Analyst (JG-16) depending on the qualifications of the selected candidates. Both levels are Non-Competitive/Confidential classification — no civil service exam is required.

This is a citywide role serving the Civil Court across all five boroughs of New York City, with occasional travel to Civil Court locations throughout the city. The ADR Unit coordinates mediation and dispute resolution programs that help resolve civil cases outside of traditional courtroom litigation.

Two Grade Levels — Titles, Salaries & Qualifications

Court Analyst
$64,971/yr
+ $4,920 NYC location pay
Qualifications — one of the following:
  • 1 year in the Assistant Court Analyst title; or
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university + 1 year of relevant experience; or
  • Master’s degree in Public or Business Administration from an accredited college or university; or
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.

Role: Performs confidential analysis, research, planning, and related duties in areas including budget development, court finance, personnel administration, resource allocation, and court system management.

Grade JG-16 · Non-Competitive/Confidential
Assistant Court Analyst
$58,100/yr
+ $4,920 NYC location pay
Qualifications — one of the following:
  • 1 year in the Junior Court Analyst title; or
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; or
  • High school diploma or equivalent + 4 years of relevant experience; or
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience.

Role: Provides professional-level assistance on projects involving personnel administration, resource allocation, budget development, court finance, and policy formation under supervision.

Assignment — ADR Unit Duties

Both positions are assigned to the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Coordinator and ADR Unit within the NYC Civil Court. The ADR Unit helps parties resolve civil disputes through mediation and other non-litigation processes. Core responsibilities are organized below:

Case management & scheduling
  • Administer and monitor ADR case flow across all five boroughs
  • Schedule ADR events and notify all parties of dates, times, and locations
  • Review submissions for accuracy; communicate deficiencies to attorneys and litigants
  • Prepare referral orders, court forms, practitioner report summaries, and routine correspondence
  • Coordinate with judges, court staff, community dispute resolution centers, and partner agencies on scheduling and case status
Data entry, analysis & reporting
  • Enter, verify, and maintain case information and statistical data in case management systems
  • Compile and analyze data for reports, summaries, and public-facing documents
  • Monitor workflow and assign tasks to subordinate personnel as needed
Public contact & outreach
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for inquiries from the public, attorneys, and external organizations
  • Provide guidance on ADR procedures, document requirements, and scheduling
  • Develop outreach materials including brochures, presentations, and social media content
  • Assist with community engagement activities and evaluate outreach effectiveness
  • Support internal and external communications to ensure consistent messaging
Training & administrative support
  • Assist in training new staff on ADR procedures and data systems
  • Provide project, administrative, and operational support to the ADR Unit
