About the Role — Assistant School Safety Agent

The mission of the New York City Police Department is to enhance the quality of life in New York City by working in partnership with the community to enforce the law, preserve peace, protect the people, reduce fear, and maintain order. As part of this mission, School Safety Agents protect NYC public school buildings and grounds.

As an Assistant School Safety Agent, you will work alongside an experienced School Safety Agent performing routine protective work at a New York City Public School.

Day-to-day duties
  • Greet and receive students, employees, and visitors — direct them to the proper personnel and offices
  • Assist in making periodic inspections throughout the building and grounds to examine doors, windows, gates, locks, and equipment
  • Discourage loitering, prevent trespass, and assist with maintaining order in and around school grounds
  • Answer telephones and doorbells on school premises to ensure safety
  • Call for medical, police, or fire department assistance when needed
  • May assist in identifying persons violating NYC Public Schools rules and regulations
  • Perform related clerical functions as needed
